Last week, US Games shared a two-part article by Mike Hernandez on interpreting body language and facial expression in the Tarot. I really enjoyed that article and developed a spread based on it.
This spread is for interpersonal relationships like between you and your boss or you and a friend.
Position Is Everything
1. Advice about the situation. Here is where you will gain insight into what the situation is. You may be surprised or you may simply have your knowledge confirmed.
2. How you view the situation. Pay attention to any figures in the card. Are they facing the situation card or turned away from it? If they face forward, could this be you ignoring what is going on? Use Mike Hernandez's posts to help determine the body language of this card. (If there is no figure, read it as you normally would.)
3. How the other person views the situation. Again, pay attention to the figures in the card. What does their body language suggest to you? How do you feel if you assume that position?
4. Suggestions about how to adjust your view in order to obtain the outcome you would like. What is the body language you see? How is different from you in card 2?
Now pull back from this spread. Be an observer rather than a participant. What do you see when you remove your own ego from this spread? What are the participants missing in their communication about this situation?
Have fun with this and I'd love to hear your comments on this spread. I will share my own reading on Wednesday. If you do this spread and want to share it with others, please feel free to do so in the comments.
Interpreting body language and facial is difficult for me, but I am getting better.

Paying attention to the body language and facial expressions of the figures on the cards is an excellent component to add to any Tarot readings. Tarot artists consciously or unconsciously add facial expressions and body language to their cards that may differ greatly from one deck to another. On the other hand, my Senet Tarot deck of Ancient Egypt presents the figures in traditional Egyptian format, which is highly stylized, so body language is very subtle, except perhaps for the Fool and the Lovers. With Egyptian images the power comes from the mythical archetypes and their cultural integrity that was stable for thousands of years.
